Tax help for Bronx professionals, public employees and owners

Many of Ryan's Bronx clients work in healthcare, education and city government, and many own their homes or run small businesses. They want their federal and New York State returns done right, with city tax included and a clear plan for retirement savings.

Ryan works with clients in Riverdale, Kingsbridge, Pelham Bay, Throgs Neck, Morris Park, Country Club, City Island and across the borough.

Common situations in the Bronx

Public employee retirement plans

City and state employees often have a pension plus a 457(b) or 403(b) plan, and pre-tax contributions to those plans lower the tax you owe today.

Hospital and healthcare workers

Overtime, shift differentials and 403(b) plans all affect your bracket, so it pays to plan contributions and withholding together.

Two- and three-family homes

Renting out units means reporting the rent, splitting expenses between units and taking depreciation on the rental part of the building.

Small business owners

Restaurants, contractors and service businesses need accurate returns, payroll that matches the books and a plan for estimated taxes.

Taxes for The Bronx residents

As a New York City resident, you pay city income tax of 3.078% to 3.876% on top of New York State and federal tax. There is no separate city return. The city tax is reported on your New York State resident return.

For tax years 2025 through 2028, a federal deduction is available for the overtime premium portion of qualified overtime pay, subject to income limits. Ryan checks whether your overtime qualifies, how your employer reports it and whether you fall within the limits.

Tax rules and rates change. Confirm the current rules with the tax department before you file, or ask Ryan on your first call.
